Red Single Speed 69er Mountain Bike
This is the recent 69er conversion - a 29er mountainbike wheel
on standard 440mm Pace RC31 forks. An experiment in
69er-ing... Wow! it's fast and effective. Inspired by the
Trek 69er and by Brant's 456 in the current Dirt mag. Wheels
are of course tubeless with Al's Half
Tubes.
The ride is very positive, the wheel tracks very well uphill
and down, a real improvement over the 26" front wheel for
this bike. Here's the Spooky Wood climb at Glentress.
This was something of an accident, which works really well. I
bought the DMR frame intending to replace the frame on the red
geared bike, but never got around to it. I bought the Pace
RC31 forks (670g!) for the White Inbred Singlespeed, but I
didn't think they were suitable for really long rides -
specifically the TransScotland. So, I built up this and it
turns out to be perfect for local rides and Glentress Red.
